
Healthcare for people in rural India might just get better. A low-cost tele-electrocardiogram (ECG) machine, which can be controlled by a mobile phone through a bluetooth device, developed by the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) was inaugurated on Wednesday.
In a development that seems to capitalize on the extended capabilities of mobile phones today, Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) has announced that they have developed a low-cost, portable Tele-ECG machine that is controlled by a mobile phone via bluetooth connection.
"There is a tremendous prospects for rural healthcare and this portable Tele-ECG can be used for a quick check-up without making the patient travel and waste the golden hour in the case of a cardiac attack and begin the treatment immediatelyA patient from a remote or rural area can thus undergo a routine check without going to a hospital. Routine inspections and monitoring can be carried out while the patient is at home, travelling or at work, said Vijay Kumar, Associate Director, Knowledge Management Group.
